Contactmusic.com reports that Lohan has agreed to play cult member Nancy Pittman in the film. Manson family members murdered seven people in the 1960s, including Oscar winner Roman Polanski's actress wife Sharon Tate.
Michael Lohan, Lindsay's father, recently reunited with his daughter after serving some time in prison and is not happy with her choice of this controversial role. He wants her to choose wholesome family films, which will help her regain fame.
He said: "I don't know who is making her decisions for her. But I just wish she would go back to those family-style films, 'The Parent Trap', 'Freaky Friday', you know. This is a bad decision and I don't know who is telling her to do it."

Clashes between protesters and security forces in Tibet's main city of Lhasa have left at least two people dead, according to reports.
An emergency official told AFP news agency that many people had been hurt and an unspecified number had died.
The US-based Radio Free Asia quoted witnesses who said they had seen at least two bodies on Lhasa's streets.
Rallies have continued all week in what are said to be the largest protests against Beijing's rule in 20 years.
British journalist James Miles, in Lhasa, told the BBC that rioters had taken control of the city centre.
"Some of them are still attacking Chinese properties - shops, restaurants, owned by ethnic Chinese," he said.
"Some of them are looting those shops, taking out the contents and throwing them on huge fires which they've lit in the street."
Another eyewitness said there were tanks on the street and he had seen people being carried away on stretchers.
Dalai Lama concerned
Radio Free Asia, which is funded by the US government, quoted one Lhasa resident as saying: "[The rioters] ransacked Chinese shops and the police fired live ammunition into the crowd. No-one is allowed to move around in Lhasa now."
The rallies began earlier this week when a number of Buddhist monks were reportedly arrested after a march marking the 49th anniversary of a Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule.
Hundreds of monks took to the streets to demand their release. The protests have gathered momentum over the past four days and campaign groups say ordinary people are now involved.
The Dalai Lama, who heads Tibet's government-in-exile in India, released a statement expressing deep concern.
He called on the Chinese leadership to "stop using force and address the long-simmering resentment of the Tibetan people through dialogue with the Tibetan people."
He added: "I also urge my fellow Tibetans not to resort to violence."
Unrest has spread to other areas of Tibet and neighbouring provinces. There are reports of hundreds of monks rallying in Gansu.
The situation is causing concern among Western governments - with senior US and UK officials urging both sides to show restraint.
China says Tibet has always been part of its territory - though Tibet enjoyed long periods of autonomy before the 20th Century and many Tibetans remain loyal to the Dalai Lama, who fled in 1959.

LOS ANGELES - Bai Ling has copped a plea in her shoplifting caseThe actress was charged earlier this week with petty theft for trying to take a pack of batteries and two Star magazines worth $16.22 from a store at Los Angeles International Airport.
In the plea deal requested by her attorney, she agreed Wednesday to plead guilty to disturbing the peace and to pay a fine and penalties totaling $700, city attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said.
The misdemeanor infraction "carries the same penalty as petty theft," Mateljan said.
In a message posted on her blog, the actress proclaimed "I am innocent" below a photo of herself with her thumb up.
"Theft dismissed! Yes! This is it! All the darkness went away," she wrote.
The actress, who has appeared in such films as "The Crow" and "Anna and the King," was arrested Feb. 13 after she was detained by a store employee who summoned police.
She later told E! News that she was having an "emotionally crazy" day because she and her boyfriend broke up right before Valentine's Day.

Paris Hilton will make an appearance as herself when My Name Is Earl returns to NBC with new episodes next month for the first time since the writers' strike shut down production on dozens of scripted series.
According to NBC, the former Simple Life star will show up in a fevered dream Jason Lee's Earl has while unconscious during an hourlong episode titled "I Won't Die with a Little Help from My Friends," slated to air Apr. 3.
"When we wrote the role of Paris Hilton in the script, we weren't exactly sure who to go with for the role," series creator and executive producer Greg Garcia said. "But after an exhausting search, we finally settled on a relatively unknown actress by the name of Paris Hilton.
"I can't wait to see what she does with the role and I can't wait for America to discover her."
Ha, ha.
Hilton probably wouldn't mind being rediscovered, however, especially considering the dismal response to her last onscreen foray, the Razzie-ready The Hottie and the Nottie, which attracted (if that is the correct word) $28,000 worth of business at the box office last month.
The hotel heiress successfully parlayed her persona into five seasons of The Simple Life, but her fictional turns haven't done much for her acting cred.
Her film and TV roles playing someone other than Paris Hilton include the horror remake House of Wax, The O.C., Las Vegas, George Lopez, Veronica Mars and American Dreams. She'll have yet another chance to prove herself in the upcoming feature Repo! The Genetic Opera, a musical sci-fi flick that recently wrapped production.
